Toys R Us

With the Summer Holidays, and chaos just around the corner - this is the perfect time to get your children into decluttering and organising their things!

Most people dread the idea of this - but don’t!

Children are much more responsive when they are involved in the process. The important thing is to make the process fun, here are some top tips to get your children to declutter and organise like a pro!

  • Picking somewhere where their toys are going, can really make a difference - perhaps they’d like to donate to a charity that means something to them, or something they resonate with. My nieces love to donate their toys to the RSPCA as they have a rescue dog!

  • Implementing colour coding into a play room or a bedroom can really help children learn the art of organising, helping differentiate between their toys. For example, a pink box for puzzles and a green box for balls.

  • Alternatively, you can use stickers, or labels, getting your children to join in making the labels can be fun too.

  • Another great way of labelling, is chalk board paint - painting this on the fronts of chest of drawers or boxes means your children can be more involved - making it more fun.

  • Did you know that children only play with 20% of their toys, 80% of the time - start a rotation to find out what that 20% is, this is a good way to see what your children really play with and what they possibly have grown out of.

  • Books - children’s books can be difficult to let go of, but sorting books to being age appropriate can help make the decisions easier. Special children’s books are always a great asset - I still have my Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit books that make me smile. Consider joining a library to reduce the amount of books you own, alternatively, book swapping is a great idea.

  • Always a messy subject, Arts and Crafts have the capacity to multiply of their own accord. Keep on top of paints, and glitter, by using appropriate storage. Check the paintbrushes are washed, and everything is put away in its place.

  • Artwork - Every child has an abundance of this, and it is very difficult to decide what you should keep and what you shouldn’t. Check out these easy ways of storing and presenting their artwork. Doodle Nest is a great way to print and store your children's art into books https://doodlenest.co.uk/

Alternatively you can use a more traditional art folder for your children's art work or even a clip picture frame you can change every now and then https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=clip+picture+frames&crid=1LFNCZYMOMZPH&sprefix=clip+pic%2Caps%2C81&ref=nb_sb_ss_pltr-data-refreshed_ci_hit-vc-hl-left_1_8

  • Lego - clients are always asking what to do with old lego, check out this link! -https://www.lego.com/en-gb/sustainability/environment/replay?locale=en-gb&fbclid=IwAR1sDjS6MufCaqzPCawOM95UbWMUxHVifL3Ot4-1w4XCaaik0eDeVvNetxk_aem_AbzOcNk39pzLqLXaZ7_pB6bgCSFILyQE4IxLsh6832JDBwLcuDAEOCp25_pYSDWDcKs

  • Clever Storage ideas for playrooms and bedrooms are: ottomans, under bed storage, and don’t forget to look up! shelves are always handy - making your children’s space a place to play, and not a room of doom!

Happy Holidays!
